This summer Youth Force has split up into four groups each focusing on a certain issue: Money, Crime, Violnce and Drugs. The money group in particular focused on the issues of lack of money and the need for it. They felt that they could address the issue by helping people obtain jobs. So as a group they sat together and came up with the idea of a job fair. Next they reached out to as many companies and organizations they could to participate in the fair. Then they secured a location and date to hold the job fair on. The best place was where the Youth Force works, Dorchester Bay EDC and to hold it on August 9th. Finally they started thinking about the promotional aspects and what ways to get it out there. As a result the group created a flyer and began passing them out around the community. Now the group is waiting to hold the job fair and see what the outcome is.

The first thing the Violence Group did was research how much gang violence was going on. We came up with the idea to meet with Reverend Brown who is a big influence in our community. He also is someone who works with different groups of teens to help squash conflict between them. We wanted to meet with him because of this. In the meeting, he explained why he started working with the different teen groups in the first place. His reasoning was because a boy had got shot eleven times in Academy Park and was in the hospital for 2 months. During this time his father was talking to the Rev. and was saying how he was scared for his son's life. To him it was the breaking point that the violence needed to stop. So the Reverend had came up with an idea to meet with both H-Block (the group of teens that were responsible for the shooting,) and Academy. This was the first meeting he ever did. After talking with him we were inspired to attempt to end all the unnecessary violence. So as a result, we contacted Helen Suarez the head of the Dorchester Bay Summer Camp in order to discuss some plans. Our plans were to spend the last day of the camp with the kids and hold violence classes. This is what the violence group has done so far.

In the drug group we came up with many ideas to prevent older and younger people from doing drugs. Also we talked about how it brings about negativity in your life. After finding research about the effects of drugs we made skits to try and reach out to young teens. As a group we have come up with various ideas to inform more than one audience meaning kids, adolescents, and adults. We have contacted local rehab centers to see the success of patients getting clean. Our goal as a group is to inform all people in our community about being and staying free.
